A Remembrance
As this issue is going to
press, the South King County Group is gearing up for another strenuous
battle wth invasive ivy and Scotch broom along the Soos Creek Trail in
Kent. One of our most faithful members will be missing this time. Dian
Alyea died in February after a long, hard fight against multiple myeloma
cancer.
Dian was an active member of
our group, attending meetings despite her late work hours. After
becoming sick, she was still eager to participate to her fullest,
grubbing our ivy, when she felt strong enough, staffing the
sign-in/snack table, and cheering on the rest of us when the disease and
its treatment did their dirtiest work. Always an outdoor person, Dian
spent as much time as she could with family, friends, Maggie (her dog),
or alone, enjoying the peace and calm that only nature provides. As we
continue our efforts to bring beauty and harmony to our local trail, we
will miss Dian and remember her loving kindness, friendly support, and
ready smile.
Thank you, Dian, for caring
so much about our natural environment and for adding so much to all our
lives.

Upcoming Activites and
Actions
On Wednesday, July 1, the South King County
Group will hold its annual Summer Solstice Potluck at Soos Creek Park.
Following the potluck, we will take advantage of the long, warm evening
and take a leisurely stroll along the trail. Two of our bird
enthusiasts, Mark Johnston and Dan Streiffert, will serve as guides to
the wondrous array of birds that often frequent the trail.
