An Inconvenient Truth
On September 12, over 45
Federal Way citizens and friends attended our free showing of Al Gore’s
Academy-award winning climate-change documentary, An Inconvenient
Truth, at the Federal Way Regional Library. The audience represented
all ages and walks of life. A question-and-answer session followed the
movie, during which people asked informed questions about solar energy,
alternative fuels, and what they could do to combat climate change.
Cool Cities
Nearly 700
“Cool Cities” nationwide have signed up to implement plans to not only
curb their greenhouse gas emissions, but also to save money through
energy efficiency and to create environmentally healthy communities.
Several south King County cities have already signed up including
Auburn, Burien, and Renton. We continue to work with Kent Mayor Cooke
and city officials in helping them become a Cool City, also.

In September, we
contacted Federal Way Mayor Park and City Council
members via letter and
in person at a City Council meeting. We requested they consider making
Federal Way a Cool City. Several City Council members are supportive of
the program. If you live in Federal Way, please send a message to Mayor
Park at
michael.park@cityoffederalway.com. Request
that he consider making Federal Way a Cool City.
If you would like to
help Federal Way become a Cool City, please contact Jessica Eagle at
jessica.eagle@sierraclub.org.
Also, we will be offering a
Hybrid Vehicle Tour at Auburn-area dealerships on November 17
to see and learn about the increasing variety
of hybrid vehicles now on the market (see
Calendar).
Hybrid vehicles are one way to save money,
increase your mileage, and combat climate change by producing fewer
greenhouse gas emissions.
ExCom Openings
If you
would like to direct some of your environmental enthusiasm and have the
opportunity to help plan Group activities, actions, etc., please
consider running for election to our Group’s Executive Committee. We
meet bi-monthly at
central locations in south King County. Contact Group Chair Dan
Streiffert at
danstreiffert@comcast.net.
